The coprocessor is designed to perform many powerful floating point operations. This frees the main processor from performing the floating point computations while the coprocessor simultaneously performs the numeric calculations.
Besides numeric computations, coprocessors are also available for other specific computation – inensive application areas such as signal processing, graphics, image processing and many others.
In recent times, designing coprocessors for parallel fast multiplications of numbers has become an important field of research. Several algorithms have been developed for multiplication of binary numbers that are easily being implemented on a VLSI chip
